Priors Park Farm Ltd - Richard Limb

Priors Park Farm Ltd. is a medium sized arable and vegetable enterprise growing carrots, onions, leeks, potatoes, sugar beet and various combinable crops. The area on which they operate is around 250ha, all rented specifically for vegetable production, except for the base, Normanton Larches Farm.

This is a third generation family firm with two directors, both Richard and his father, Peter. Richard’s grandfather, George, started the business back in 1948 following active involvement in the "War-Ag." an operation for which he received his O.B.E. in 1975.

Normanton Larches Farm lies just east of Clumber Park, a National Trust park renowned for its natural beauty and the lake, from which the River Poulter flows running to the North of the farm. It is from this that most of the water used for irrigation is abstracted. The river is teaming with freshwater fish attracting wild predators such as Herons and Kingfishers. It is also home to a number of water foul and for the last decade, a family of Mute Swans seem to enjoy gathering around the irrigation engines during the summer.

The land is predominantly bunter sandstone and lends itself well to the production of field vegetables and root crops through careful management of cultivation, nutrients, water application and soil, without compromising environmental protection.

The farm also runs a successful game shoot which, through conservation work associated with it, helps to enhance the habitats of a wide spectrum of wildlife which is to be found in the large areas of woodland on the farm.

Priors Park Farm’s aim is to manage a profitable farming business through Integrated Crop Management principles, which will maintain the sensitive ecology of the environment in which we work.
