Our packing facilities ...

The New Farm site uses modern packing equipment that is cost effect and results in good quality packing. Where relevant, product is hydrocooled or vacuum cooled and we use plastics technologies to improve shelf-life.  The site can respond to virtually any customer requirement in terms of the unit type from a 25 tonne bulker load through to dolavs, wooden bins, tonne bags, cardboard boxes, plastic bags, punnetts, prepacks, to individual bunches of specific crops.

We use automation wherever possible including multihead weighers, vertical form fill and seal units and over-wrappers. We are able to pack into our own or customers packaging dependant upon requirement and availability.

The main focus for sales is via Sherwood’s packing agent, Hammond Produce Ltd. Formed 10 years ago, Hammond has extensive contracts with all segments of the customer base and relies on Sherwood grower’s product for the certainty and provenance that its customers demand.

Based at New Farm, just north of Nottingham, Hammond run Sherwood’s production site comprising approximately 45,000 sq/ft of BRC compliant facilities in which approximately half of the total Sherwood output is packed. Almost all product types are handled and dispatched via Hammond. The site is strategically located for access to the national road network in all directions. Leeks are typically packed in field on our rigs, with only some product coming back to the yard, the rest going direct to depot from field.

Sherwood also provide product to other fresh produce packers, coordinated by a central office at New Farm.

Delivery to customers is typically on our own fleet of lorries, some running on biofuels, ensuing accurate and timely drops.
